We went to see this movie at the local small town Roxy theatre when it first came out. There was no advertising surrounding this movie, it was purely word of mouth recommendations that had people flocking to see it.
Tom Laughlin was brilliant in facilitating this word of mouth approach to promoting the film. That's how it was when we went to see it at the time.

I met a woman in San Point Alaska, way out on the Aleutian chain. She introduced me to John Prines music over 50 years ago. He played at a small venue in Anchorage with Steve Goodman. I was in hog heaven! I saw him again at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. He's been the musical words in my soul all these years and I cried for days (still do sometimes) when he passed. Hot afternoon day at Red Rocks, Prine opened for the Avett brothers. Should have been the other way around. Prine is a legendary artist and Avetts are popular now see if you heard of them in 2040! To their credit, they did acknowledge Prine's greatness, but promoter went for the cash money!
